About Tijarah

Built by the community, for the community

Tijarah started with a simple frustration: the best cooks, tailors, tutors and artists in our neighbourhoods were impossible to find unless you already knew someone who knew them. So we built the introduction.

It began in a group chat

Every Bohri neighbourhood has one: the thread where somebody asks for a mehndi artist two days before a wedding, and forty people scroll past without answering. The talent was always there. The directory wasn't.

In 2024 we started keeping a spreadsheet of the providers our families actually vouched for. It reached four hundred names before we admitted it needed to be an app, one where every profile is verified, every review is written by someone who really booked, and the person on the other end is your neighbour, not a call centre.

Tijarah is that spreadsheet, grown up. Providers keep 100% of what they earn (we take no commission on a single ₹) and the community keeps the trust it already had.

Every provider clears Aadhaar and EJamat ID checks before a profile goes live. No anonymous sellers, no ghost listings.

Women-led by design

Three in five providers on Tijarah are women running businesses from home. The Women-led hub puts them first, not in a filter nobody opens.

Zero commission, always

Providers keep every ₹ a customer pays them. We charge no cut on bookings. The business belongs to the person doing the work.

Your data stays yours

Chats are private, contact details are never scraped or resold, and we have no advertising business that would tempt us to change that.

In your language

Ten languages, from Urdu and Gujarati to Tamil and English, so the app speaks the way your family actually does.

Moderated by neighbours

Reviews come only from real bookings, and disputes are read by community moderators who know the context, not an offshore queue.

How we got here

📒Spring 2024
A spreadsheet of 400 names
Four families start logging every provider they'd personally vouch for. Word gets around; the sheet is shared 1,200 times in six weeks.
🪪Winter 2024
The first verified profiles
We pair Aadhaar with EJamat ID so a listing can prove both identity and community standing. 180 providers onboard in Mumbai and Pune.
🚀Summer 2025
Tijarah launches on the App Store and Google Play
Chat, bookings, saved locations and reviews ship together on iPhone and Android. 8,000 members join in the first month, mostly through family group chats.
🌸Winter 2025
The Women-led hub
A dedicated home for the home kitchens, boutiques and studios run by women, plus payouts, invoicing and repeat-customer tools built for them.
